Wells Fargo bank statements to Excel, CSV or QuickBooks

Wells Fargo's own online activity download only reaches back so far. For anything older, for a batch of statements a client handed you, or for a scanned copy, Arkrel reads the PDF and checks its balances before you convert it to QuickBooks CSV, Xero CSV, OFX, Excel, CSV or JSON.

How it works

  1. 1Upload the statement PDF, digital or scanned, from any bank.
  2. 2Arkrel checks the opening balance, every credit and debit, and the closing balance, and the running balance on every row where the statement prints one.
  3. 3Download QuickBooks CSV, Xero CSV, OFX, Excel, CSV or JSON, with the exact line flagged if a check fails.

When to convert the PDF instead

Once you're past Wells Fargo's activity download window, or you're catching up a year or more of bookkeeping from statements a client handed you, the practical source is the monthly PDF statement itself.

QuickBooks Online can extract some PDF and image bank statements directly, and Xero can import a PDF bank statement for eligible US and Canadian organizations, excluding Xero Ledger. Either is a reasonable first stop for a recent, clean Wells Fargo PDF you're entering for the first time. Arkrel is built for the harder cases: years of older Wells Fargo statements, a mix of scanned and digital files, several statements at once, or any PDF you want checked against its own printed balances before it goes into your books.

Every statement checked before you download

Arkrel doesn't need a Wells Fargo template. It reads the transaction table in any bank's PDF and checks the arithmetic before you can download anything: the opening balance, plus every credit, minus every debit, must equal the closing balance, and on a statement that prints a running balance, each row must follow from the one before it. A statement that fails either check is still exported when you ask for it, but the download is marked, and the dashboard or free tool shows exactly which check failed and on which line.

Worth knowing

Wells Fargo also notes that pending transaction amounts can change and may post in a different order than they showed as pending, so a downloaded activity file can look different from the posted statement a few days later. Convert the posted statement, not a pending-activity snapshot, when you need a figure that will match your books.

Does Arkrel work with Wells Fargo statements specifically?
Yes. Arkrel reads the transaction table in any bank's PDF, so it doesn't depend on a Wells Fargo template: upload a Wells Fargo statement, checking, savings or credit card, and it checks the opening balance, every credit and debit, and the closing balance the same way it checks any bank's PDF.
What if I only have a scanned or photographed statement?
That works the same way. Arkrel processes a scanned or photographed statement the same as a digital PDF, and runs the same balance checks either way.
My Wells Fargo activity download only goes back a few months. What about older transactions?
Wells Fargo's own activity FAQ documents a 90-day default download window, with up to 18 months for certain accounts. For anything older, use the monthly PDF statements (Wells Fargo keeps deposit account statements available online for up to seven years) and convert them with Arkrel.
