Prepare your books

Get your books ready for your accountant, without the back-and-forth

Handing your accountant a folder of PDFs and hoping they sort it out costs you money in billable hours, and time in back-and-forth emails. Here is how to prepare finished books yourself, so your accountant starts from sorted numbers instead of raw statements.

How it works

  1. 1

Upload or email a year of statements

Bank and credit card statements for the tax year, PDF, photo or scan.

  2. 2

    Confirm merchants once

Every transaction grouped by merchant; confirm each one and the rule remembers it.

  3. 3

    Review what is flagged

A large or equipment-looking purchase and anything ambiguous always goes to your review instead of being guessed at.

  4. 4

    Share with your accountant

A read-only link or an export (QuickBooks CSV, Xero CSV, OFX, CSV, XLSX): your accountant sees sorted books and a tax-ready report, not raw statements.

Questions

What does my accountant actually need from me?
Sorted transactions, a profit and loss summary, Schedule C totals, and a list of likely deductions with the transactions behind each one. See the "Share with your accountant" page for exactly how sharing works.
Do I have to export a file, or can my accountant just view it?
Either. A read-only link needs no account on their end, or export a file in whatever format their software reads.
What if I am not sure how to categorize something?
Anything genuinely ambiguous (a bare cash withdrawal, a large purchase) is never auto-decided. It waits for your input, so your accountant is never working from a guess presented as fact.
Can I see a finished example first?
Yes, the sample report shows exactly what your accountant would see, with sample data.
